Feliz Compleanos Mi Amore

Today was a special day as we celebrated Rene's Birthday. The kids took him to IHOP for breakfast as I headed to work. Luckily, Rene was given the day off since he will be leaving to El Salvador on Tuesday. He will be gone for three weeks on a humanitarian mission. We will miss him dearly. Some words to the man who takes such good care of us:

Spring Is Here

Wow, how time flies. I was not aware of how long it had been since I posted. Working three days a week has been hectic. Yes, I know, it is only three days. It has been all about getting adjusted to a new routine. With the Japan disaster, my days have been spent in front of the television or on Facebook. Spring has arrived and the greenery is finally coming to life. The weather here is getting hot again. Renie has started a lifeguard class at the University. He hopes to get a job this summer. I am so proud of this boy, he is such a good kid. Last weekend, Rene and I had to get lost because his friends were coming over to make spaghetti and watch movies. Larissa stayed because she did not want to go out with us, and she tells me everything. She told me the girls were so pretty and nice. I keep asking if he is going to prom, but he has not decided yet. On to different things, we are spending our spring break here in Tucson. Even though my job is so flexible, I decided I would work since Rene had to work this weekend for an operations exercise. Life is good here, the kids are great and we continue to keep Japan in our prayers.

Sabino Canyon is about a 25 minute drive from our home. Nestled in the canyons by Mt. Lemmon, it is a desert oasis and attracts many hikers and visitors both young and old. This was our first time there. We decided to go check it out since Rene was headed there on Wednesday with his unit and visitors who are coming in for a conference. I was amazed at how massive this hiking area is. There are so many trails, some up high, some down low. We opted to take the shuttle up to the top and then walk down since we were low on water supplies. The road to the top is a 4 mile trek, so it is a total of 8 miles if you stay on the road. There were waterfalls, water holes, and beautiful Sycamore trees and rocks along the way. We saw joggers, walkers and hikers. Today we were off buying our hiking shoes and can't wait to go back and tackle some of the trails. This is a perfect time of the year to hike and Tucson has so much to offer. You can bet this will be one sight we take our visitors to.

Ok, so after 7 months of being unemployed, I was so happy to get my first paycheck yesterday. As much as I enjoyed staying home, there were days when I missed working. I was getting a little down and out thinking I would never get a job here. With two dietetic internships in town and a boat load of college students looking for jobs, I knew it would be a challenge. So yes, getting that check brought me a sense of fulfillment. I love my job, but it is exhausting. With so many admits, we literally stay busy all day. I am working 3 days a week with Tues and Thurs off. This gives me time to breath, catch up on cleaning and get my running in. The job market ain't no joke here, so I am blessed to be able to work again.
